ATR Shaping Sustainable Aviation

ATR made a key intervention at a sustainable aviation forum.

In Mid-May the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) welcomed delegates to its annual forum, in Montréal, Canada. The forum is organised by ATAG in cooperation with other industry stakeholders and ATR was invited to talk about the prospects for electric and hybrid aircraft. As the number one in regional aviation, it is important that ATR takes a lead on combatting climate change, whilst promoting concrete solutions to ensure that aviation reduces its carbon footprint.

Our Senior Vice President of Engineering Stéphane Viala discussed some of the various technologies being considered for low carbon aviation such as biofuels, electric and hydrogen – as well as what potential challenges might be. To find the right solution it is crucial to look end-to-end, from the production to the ultimate disposal of the aircraft, as a narrower view may lead to the adoption of the wrong solution.

ATAG is an independent coalition of organisations and companies throughout the air transport industry. It brings the industry together to form a strategic perspective on commercial aviation’s sustainable development and the role that air transport plays in supporting the sustainability of other sectors of the economy. More than 200 people participated in the forum, including representatives from ICAO states.
